Our client is a high-profile chartered accounting and business advisory firm with long history in the New Zealand market. The firm offers the full range of accounting, assurance, tax and business advisory services to a broad spectrum of clients.
The firm's clients vary widely and many of them are subsidiaries of substantial overseas entities with multi-million-dollar turnover. Current team dynamics and growth have created the need for an assistant manager to join one of the firm’s business services teams on Auckland's North Shore.

About the role
Some of the main duties and responsibilities include:
- preparation of year-end financial statements and periodic tax returns
- budgeting & cashflow/forecasting
- managing the workflow for a portfolio of key clients
- team supervision and reviewing
- assisting managers and partners with various ad hoc operational and strategic tasks
In addition to the essential technical competencies in client accounting and tax, this role requires exceptional verbal and written communication skills and ability to manage client relationship for a portfolio of key clients. The diverse nature of the firm's clients means exposure to a wide variety of technical areas and professionally stimulating assignments.
About the successful candidate
Here are some of the key competencies and personal attributes that are essential for this role:
- CA or CPA qualifications
- 5 years + NZ CA experience in business services (ideally in a sizeable firm)
- good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, MYOB and XERO
- previous experience with IFRS reporting in a CA environment
- previous supervisory/reviewing experience (preferred but not a must)
- good analytical and problem-solving skills
- proven organisational and time management skills
- excellent Interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
Other information
Due to the size and nature of some of the clients, you will have the opportunity to get involved in increasingly complex assignments including a range of value-add projects. This means that, in addition to the traditional statutory accounting, management reporting and tax compliance, the successful candidate will be offered gradual exposure to special projects involving valuations, due diligence, mergers and acquisitions and other advisory engagements.
